Research Interests
Our major research interest is to understand how the genetic program of stamen morphogenesis encoded in one dimensional DNA sequence is decoded into a well organized and highly conserved 4 dimensional multicellular structure. Based on our rice GEP data and information from Genevestigator, we carried out a relatively large scale in situ hybridization. From about 40 candidates, we found more than 10 preferentially expressed genes related to stamen development, and identified a possible link between stamen identity determination and germ cell induction. In addition, we would find out a bunch of promoters specifically functioning in early stamen development, which would not only provide needed tools for the above investigation, but also new accesses for creating artificial male sterility.
